Artist Statement
Emma Ward lives and works from her home studio based in Central Queensland. Currently studying her Fine Arts degree with Curtin University, Emma's practise is evolving. Whilst previously exploring the emotions of the maternal archetype and the presence of this energy in nature, Emma has discovered through her studies a desire to learn the collective 'herstory' of other female Artist's through time who have focused their work on domesticity and the Female Gaze. Seeing her Arts practise as part of this story Emma works to shine light on the contemporary lives and loves of women. Emma works intuitively, creating artworks through drawing, paint, and sculpture to capture the trace of emotion and spirit that is inherent within objects, people, and place. Emma’s practice records the alchemic effect this energy has on her, which she hopes will act as a catalyst in the viewer to unlock connection, emotions, and memories of care and nurture.
